From the moment we arrived at Zilker Park, the atmosphere was electric. The event was perfectly nestled in the excitement of the Austin City Limits Music Festival, and it was clear that everyone was ready to celebrate our green spaces. The Austin Parks Foundation really knows how to throw a party!

The evening kicked off with an impressive array of delicious bites from Taco Deli and drinks with Tito’s Vodka that showcased the best local flavors. I may or may not have gone back for seconds (or thirds) of those amazing tacos and nachos. And let’s not forget the games! The Tipsy Toss and Gift Card Gamble were crowd favorites, and I found myself laughing alongside fellow park lovers as we tossed our way to some fun prizes. Who knew fundraising could be this much fun?

The highlight, of course, was the live auction. Bidding on luxury getaways and fine dining experiences was an exhilarating experience, and it felt great to know that every dollar raised was going directly to benefit Austin’s nearly 400 parks, trails, and green spaces. I may have made a mental note to practice my auction paddling for next year!

As the night went on, the energy in the room built up, culminating in an incredible private concert with none other than Orville Peck. His unique sound and captivating stage presence had everyone singing along and dancing. It was the perfect way to end an evening dedicated to celebrating our parks and community.

This year’s Party for the Parks was not only a blast, but it also reinforced how important it is to support our local green spaces. If you haven’t experienced Usher live, let me tell you—it’s like being wrapped in a warm blanket of nostalgia while simultaneously being blasted with the hottest dance moves of the millennium. I attended his Past Present Future Tour at the Moody Center on October 8, 2024, and it was an unforgettable experience that can only be described as a mix of euphoria, sweat, and my questionable dance skills!

From the moment Usher stepped on stage, he exuded an energy that made the entire venue feel like a giant club. The lights flashed, the crowd roared, and there I was, lost in a sea of excitement, questioning my life choices as I realized I had absolutely no idea how to dance to “Yeah!” while simultaneously trying to hold onto my drink. Spoiler: I dropped it.

Usher kicked things off with a medley of hits that had us singing along like we were the stars of our own karaoke night. “U Got It Bad”? More like “I Got It Bad for His Dance Moves.” At one point, I looked over and saw an entire row of people trying to replicate his moves. Let me just say, we were more “awkward penguins” than “smooth operators.”

And can we talk about the outfits? Usher looked so good that I almost considered trading my concert T-shirt for a high-fashion ensemble, but then I remembered that I can barely pull off sweatpants. His dancers were on another level, flipping and twirling like they were in a dance-off with gravity itself.

The best part? Usher's ability to connect with the audience. He had us singing, shouting, and even doing the “wave”—all while I was just trying not to spill any more drinks!
